Welcome to the website of the Camp LeJeune Taekwondo Team.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to train qualified personnel to participate in national and international Taekwondo Events.
WHO CAN JOIN?
All military personnel within the Camp LeJeune area can become members, including SOI, and New River. Active duty and Reserve.
THE STAFF
The instructor of the team is MGySgt Freddie McDonald Jr. He's a 4th Degree Black Belt and certified with the WTF. MGySgt McDonald is also a certified referee with USA Taekwondo.
The instructor and coach of the Cherry Point Team is Master Missy Cann. Sixth Degree Black Belt and international coach with the WTF.
MGySgt McDonald is assisted by Master Christy Alvarez, 4th Degree Black Belt and certified with the WTF. She is the teams coach and certified fitness technician.
He is also assisted by Sergeant Mathew Dalrymple who started the team is a 1st Degree Black Belt also certified with the WTF.
ARE THERE ANY PREREQUISITES IN BECOMING A MEMBER?
To participate in international competion such as CISM or the Olympics, the athlete must be the following:
- A black belt holder and certified with the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
- A member of USA Taekwondo (National Governing Body (NGB) of the sport of Taekwond and member of the U.S. Olympic Committee.)
There are members who are not black belt holders and are undergoing training regiment that will get them to black belt. All members compete from local to international competitions.
We accept athletes who are black belts and not certified with the WTF. Those athletes are going through a training regiment to meet WTF requirements.
Training is conducted at the Boxing Gymnasium, just off the circle, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Training time is 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
